CORTEX, is adept at handling various aspects of service delivery, beginning with the decomposition of Customer-Facing Services (CFS) in a Service Order. It meticulously breaks down each CFS into Resource-Facing Services (RFSs) and resources, guided by predefined business and technical rules. This decomposition is crucial for aligning services with the underlying resources required for delivery.
To ensure seamless integration and availability of resources, CORTEX interacts with inventory systems and network elements. This integration is vital for identifying available resources or validating existing RFS and resource instances, thereby ensuring that the service delivery is based on accurate and current data. In scenarios where manual intervention is required, either due to RFS-specific issues or challenges in completing CFS design and assignment, CORTEX efficiently escalates the process for manual action.
CORTEX plays a key role in updating inventory systems. It creates new logical entities or modifies existing ones, adjusting their statuses to accurately reflect the requirements of the service order. This updating process is essential for maintaining an accurate record of resources and their utilisation.
In terms of service delivery, CORTEX sequences and orchestrates the delivery activities for the set of RFSs and resources. It coordinates across various delivery systems, ensuring a streamlined and efficient delivery process. Error handling is another critical function, where CORTEX monitors RFS and resource delivery systems for any errors, delays, or failures. In response to these issues, it executes predefined actions, such as selecting alternative resources, escalating for manual intervention, or cancelling the order, if necessary.
CORTEX keeps all stakeholders informed by issuing progress notifications at key stages of the service delivery process. These notifications are sent to both internal and external recipients, ensuring transparency and timely communication throughout the service lifecycle.
Logical resources are central to effectively delivering and managing various service types. These resources, whether numbers, VPNMs, circuits, or others, are dynamically managed within relevant inventory systems based on the specific requirements of requested services. The process involves creating, modifying, or deleting these resources to align with the service demands. Once selected for a particular service, their status in the inventory system is updated to reflect their current usage.
The allocation of these logical resources is influenced by many factors, including the nature of the service itself – with different services such as SIP, IPVPN, Mobile, IPTV, etc., necessitating distinct combinations of resources. This selection process is further guided and constrained by business rules, technical standards, and recommendations from equipment vendors. These guidelines ensure that the resources allocated are optimal for the specific service type, adhering to industry best practices and technical requirements.
Logical resources go through a lifecycle as they are utilised in services. This lifecycle typically progresses through Available, Planned, In Service, Planned Cease, Quarantined, and back to Available. The specifics of the service order dictate the movement of a resource through these stages. This approach to managing the lifecycle of logical resources ensures that they are efficiently utilised and readily available for redeployment, optimising resource allocation and enhancing service delivery.
This particular automation pairs with the Life Cycle Management (LCM) and ensures that the assets assigned across multiple inventory systems are managed, secured and handled appropriately.
